I tried to submit an article but there was no indication given that it was successful. How can I find out if my article was received?

On the left-side panel, click "My Content". Your article should be there, in "review" status. If it's not, then you should probably submit it again.

Thank you for the advise. I managed to submit this time. For some reason it did not load on the last three attempts.
