Am I understanding the usage license in that I can submit a previously published article? My article "Seven Ways to Awaken Your Intuition and Activate Your Psychic Powers" has been published on my website, in "The Spiritual Path" newsletter, and on another online site starting in 2009 and was later published in 2013. I'd like to submit this to CC for usage licensing, but I want to make sure that is appropriate. I haven't found this specific question in the forum. Can you tell I'm new at this? Thanks for you help!

You just have to make sure your name is on it. I wouldn't play with usage if you are brand new in case it comes up as someone else. They run plagiarism software, and you don't know what site will come up. Best thing to do is run a search on the content and see what comes up. If it's been scraped/stolen and there are too many other people showing up for the content, I think I'd pass on reselling unless you have a history here where they will possibly give you the benefit of the doubt.

ETA: Your name in your CC profile has to match the name on the other site. (just clarifying)

Wow! I just Googled the opening paragraph of the article I was thinking of submitting and was surprised how many times the article has been used -- verbatim and/or with few changes -- without my permission and with a stranger's byline. I'm shocked. Thanks for the heads-up. Never would have thought to Google a few sentences. I'm from the old school I guess -- take pride in your work and never, never steal another person's. Again, thanks to both of you for your help.

I hear ya. It's frustrating. One thing you can do to lower the amount of plagiarism on your blog is to turn off feeds like RSS. It at least makes it more difficult for them to scrape your content.

Other than that, welcome to the Internets. lol It does suck and I know it's frustrating, but it's just the way it is.

Is it OK to post a submitted article submitted to CC on your blog once its been been sold as usage?

It's actually in the guidelines somewhere at CC. If they can't verify ownership of the article, you can't resell it here. So if it was published anonymously or under a different name, no.

I have a couple of articles myself that I want to reuse from blogs I was never able to develop fully. I'm going to edit those blogs and blog posts so they are clearly attributed to my CC author name. Then I can resell the posts here. They are quite long.

I just wonder how we can facilitate authorship verification for these articles. Is there a "comment to the editor" field where we could add the link to the original article along with notes/explanations?

Okay. Just to be clear, I will sell previously published articles only with "usage rights" and not try to pass them off as something new and unique. If I do submit them here at CC, I will let the editors know I've published it before. And yes, I do google for copies of my articles.

Articles I submitted to article directories before have been copied a few times. But the ones in my blogs haven't been copied as of today.

I've done pretty well on a few of my usage articles. I used to have a system where I'd post it to AC, get my $3, post to Helium, get my $1 or whatever it was, then post here. A couple of them sold 3-5 times for like $10. So, I made some good money off of them. Can't do that anymore. Boo. Content farms used to be a gold mine if you knew how to play the system.

I used to do nearly the same thing. I called it "triple dipping." Only difference is that I sold it to an outside client for $20 first, then AC, and finally on here. Like you, several ( 4 to 6) times over on CC. I do miss the ability to do that too. Ah well....

haha Word Gypsy. Yeah, I loved that system. I think AC requires exclusive rights now (or well, now it's Yahoo). I was a featured tech writer there, so I could also sell my $10 articles from there on here. It worked out well for a while.
