Q about bylines

Is there an 'official suggestion' regarding authoer's bylines? As in, where should it go, how long should it be, what kind of things should it contain?

If there is no formal stance, what do some of you other authors do?

I just put my name at the end of the manuscript with the year - Gail Kavanagh 2005.
There's no need to put any more unless the buyer requests it.

Just your name is best, most customers don't want to add a long byline to any article they purchase.
