Hi, I'm finishign a project but am a little stuck with one piece of information I need.

The US miliatary hand out phones to soldiers in order that they can call friends and family etc...

Apparently, these phones have a specific name. Anyone know what that name is?

not sure if you found the answer yet, I just asked my hubby (he's been over there twice) and he said, "Are you meaning a Satelite Phone." Hope it helps. :)

Thank you both for the help.

I did ask if satellite phone was the term although apparently not.

I've looked at that link thanks, still can't find anything though. I wonder if the customer could be mistaken.

not sure. But I know that's the only phone my husband used over there unless someone brought over there own cell phones but they didn't work from there, they had to wait to get closer to the states to start calling all of us to say they were on the way.

Matt,
I think you're customer is mistaken because there are so many 'phone drives' going on right now in search of phones to send soldiers. I'm sure when I say that there's not one specific brand or type being distributed over there.

My uncle's a PW 4 (I think) and he says there's no specifics, they just get what they get.

I searched using "brands of phones for soldiers", "soldier phones", "military phones in Iraq" and umpteen more, no results ... hope that helps.

Have fun!

It does help, thanks.

It confirms that there isn't a name for them. It's not a specific model or anything I was looking for, but either way, I'm sure they're called... phones.

I'm in the UK so just thought I'd check.

Thanks all, I think I can put this one to bed now.
