Question about Quotes and Name Dropping

Post by dsletten »

Hi Ed,
Before I submit an article I'm working on I want to clarify CC's rules on quotes and mentioning the name of experts in an article. Would a sentence using a source and paraphrasing him be acceptable, such as:

According to John Doe, M.D., of the University of Minnesota, the percentage of older women with eating disorders has grown over the past ten years.

And would I need to reference where this information came from right in the sentence or at the end of the article?

And are direct quotes acceptable (within reason) if I reference where they came from at the end of the article?

When I write for magazines they allow a few quotes used from other sources as long as the sources are referenced at the end. I'm not quite sure how you feel about this, though.

Thanks
Ed

You can cite sources however you wish - just don't include full web addresses/links when those sources are websites. Quotes are okay as long as their sources are cited and they are used within reason.

Thanks,
Ed
