Reimbursement for Materials

Hi,
From time to time, a customer will have me purchase software or books as part of an assignment. I usually mark the price up 35% so that my expenses are covered. Usually, it's no big deal if the materials are inexpensive. However, today, I just purchased a $137 item. This means, I will need to tack on an additional $50 or so to break even. The customer must pay $50 more for materials than needed. Is there a way we could avoid this somehow? It's rare so I can't see programming the site for materials fees but is there a way on a case-by-case basis to bypass the cut?
