I think it would be really cool if it could be incorporated that we can see how many people have viewed each article and maybe if they like it but it is priced too high or they want something specific in it they could make an offer or ask a question to the author, i know this may be crazy hard or out of the question but i was just thinking it would be cool and also help us know personally which of our articles are getting the most attention.

anyone out there?

no responses on whether this is do-able or just plain nuts?

Not sure if it would be doable or not, because I'm just a writer here, but I think it would be nice to see just which articles are getting the most attention. I think then we would know what interests the potential buyers, and we can add articles accordingly.

I'm just a writer, too, but I'd like to add my vote to yours. It's hard enough to guess what the customers are looking for when they post requests and take the time to respond to questions. Most of the time I feel as if I'm shooting blind. A little guidance would save a lot of time and energy for everyone, admin included. Fewer off-target articles means less wasted editing time.

The problem with this is you will never know if a customer is looking at your article, a writer, a random person that found your article via a search engine, admin, etc. I could make a counter that will only count registered customers, but I'm not sure this will help anyone.

I can't see how that would hurt us. I'd be more than willing to use a counter that only counts registered buyers. At least then I'd know just what articles are being most looked at by the people actually buying the articles on the site. This actually sounds like a good idea, the more that I think about it...

I'm not a big fan of this, but we will consider adding this feature. I just think there is no good way to give real stats with articles. Many customers don't login until they are ready to buy, I just think it would cause more confusion then help. I'm thinking of new writers more then our veteran writers, but again I will consider it.

I think I understand the point Chris is trying to make here. It would be difficult if not impossible to get accurate and realistic statistics from any kind of counter. This could give writers false hope and it could be discouraging in the long run.

I feel it could discourage as well. And I don't think it would do anything except satisfy a curiosity (that, on my part, can sometimes be masochistic!).

It's kind of like the rating system, the idea of which many people felt would harm rather than help.

I love the way CC is set up now--everyone really has an equal opportunity to write and make sales.

I'm with southern rose and Dorothy. I think this would be a deterent rather than a positive improvement. Don't fix what isn't broken is my way of looking at it. We are doing great with CC as it is. I think it should remain this way.

I see the technical aspect of it, it would be confusing for some people. How about the message system? So if a customer likes what you write but wants a minor change of the article they can contact you about that article. And if they are concerned with unsolicited messages from writers offering articles you can make it only that a writer can respond to a question/comment and not send them a message without it, kind of like the questions that authors can write about requested content but the opposite? I dont know if this would work or even if it makes sense to anyone but me lol, just curoius!

And I dont see it as fixing something that isnt broke, I see it as tweaking the system. CC has become quite a little metropolis here and I think things are great. Just because you are a good writer doesnt mean you dont strive to do better and I think the improvements that are taking place at CC are wonderful. Maybe its not possible now but maybe sometime in the future it can be incorporated the right way without all the complications. Who knows, maybe I'm just crazy, LOL.

Hmm, that's an interesting thought about adding a Q&A section to articles as well. I think that may be a good idea, and a good way for writers and customers to communicate within the CC community.

...and bring on the 28 new servers you're going to need. How many articles are on site at the moment? I would imagine the bandwidth and disk usage is pretty high already and if you add a Q&A to each article that's going to erupt. The more you put on site like that, the slower everything will become and the less user friendly it is.

While I too am only a humble writer I don't see that as a viable option.

It does not need to be for every article but for every author. A customer can simply message/email/whatever it may be, about an article you have written using the title and you will know what it is they are referencing to. I think communication between authors and customers is a good thing, people won't be so blind when they buy an article from someone they dont know as they will be able to discuss things with the author. I dont think it is out of the question to incorporate this and I think it would make the customers feel better to be able to communicate with the people who write for them. I also believe that customers will be more satisfied with the work they buy because they will be able to have things catered to their needs. This would greatly help authors be able to sell more articles and please customers better. We all know, cusomer satisfaction + author satisfaction= more work being done and more money for authors and CC. And besides, you can never have too much communication.

...or, indeed, too many line breaks.
