New C.C. Junkie with Question about Sales

I guess this one is for administration or anyone with a relatively long history with C.C., but it seems as though most of what sells is not actually publicly requested. I'm curious what the ratio is as to what sells better for the site overall--requested topics or unrequested. I guess I want to know because while it makes most sense to write for the requests--I don't always feel inclined toward the subject matter and it would feel a little more inspiring for me to know there are actually plenty of anonymous shoppers out there likely to pick out any topic under the sun. And finally, I suppose this all figures into the maddening search for surefire sellers--impossible to predict, I know, but I search nonetheless. And also--here's another whopper--but does the site find that newly posted material sells better than the older stuff or vice-versa? Probably I'm overthinking all this and have had too much coffee today, but any replies or thoughts on the topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! --Jennifer

I've been with CC for about a year, and originally I almost soley wrote for requests. In the past few months, however, I've been writing equally for requested and non-requested topics, and I have been having a lot of success doing this. Sometimes requested articles are never bought, and sometimes non-requested articles are snatched up quickly. It can be a little unpredictable, but as with many things, a well-rounded approach seems to do the trick. I do notice that my newer content tends to sell better, perhaps because older content simply gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

I'm also a new CC junkie and was wondering the same. Since this week hasn't brought many new requests I have just been submitting content that interests me and waiting to see what happens. I had a great week last week but a quiet one this week. I'm sure its like everything else - highs and lows.....

Yes! The good weeks are great, but when sales lag, it's like...well what happened? It's natural to try to stick to topics that have sold well in the past, but I will probably use the slow periods to work up a more varied repertoire and write about what interests me--which will hopefully sell sooner or later. In any case, this selling game has me hooked. Best of luck to us all!

Hi all! I've been around since the end of June last year and honestly it's hard to say what's going to sell or not.

The best part is that you never know exactly who is crawling around looking for articles and sometimes you'll hit a good niche that sells fast.

I've been lucky enough to hit a couple of topics hard but right now all I can say is that summer related articles will go like wildfire like home improvement, family vacations and garden type articles.

Oh and don't forget spring too!

I'm working on some articles to submit but lately I just write a few up and submit them all the same day, it's just easier for me.

I need to get busy because I want to hit that Disney vacation deal this year, a week for less than $1500! LOL

I have only been here a few weeks and I am quickly finding this out. It really seems like such a crapshoot.

I have written some stuff that I feel is pretty good, but it still has not sold yet. However, I wrote some stuff that I either felt was not that strong or there would not be anyone who would pick it up and it sold.

You can say it's a crapshoot I guess because I've felt the same way.

I've written some articles that have astounded me! Then I've written a few that just interested me and boom, they sold within hours of approval.

I've experimented and at one time tried to spread my work out in many categories but the saying is true, "Write what you know!"

The articles that sell for me are usually the ones that I know the most about and hey, that's okay with me.

Hang in there, it's gets better!

Lol! I'd have to actually agree with LJade on that. Your name does kind of have an appeal to it. Though, if your ego gets big from such comments on CC we might have to rally up some people on hear to pop your ego before it becomes too inflated :p.

When I read the name 'Eric Maus' it just sounded like a really cool character name, like ...

'Eric Maus, the bastard son of Emily. When he looked at me I could feel his eyes piercing through my ...'

You get the idea but after the remark, we would surely have to dream up the character! That really made my day.
