How large a portfolio?

Post by JoHunley »

I see quite a few places where it's recommended to have a decent selection of articles waiting in the portfolio, for best results as far as steady sales go. About how many articles constitute a "decent selection"? 20? 80?

Thanks.

Hi,
I don't know that there's really a definitive answer. If you post five articles and never post again, then you'd be limiting yourself so keep submitting. On the other hand, I believe it's more important to keep an eye on what's hot at the moment and try to catch some of that action. The trick is to find a balance. Having articles available is nice in that you'll get sales long after the fact. While it may feel like a bonus at the time, it may have been a long wait.

Why not take a short term approach and commit to a certain number of submissions per day or week rather than an utlimate number? That way, you'll be building your article base and hopefully staying in tune with the current trends and making sales (which decrease your article base). If you successfully sell articles along the way, you may never reach the ultimate number you had in mind :)
