New Category List

Post by Celeste Stewart »

Hi all,
I typed up all of the new categories and their subcategories to make it easier to figure out where to place articles and thought that I'd share. Copy and paste the following into your own Word document and save it for later reference. You might want to format it a little nicer than what I have here. I think it will help us all get more familiar with what's what.

Thanks, Celeste.

Could someone explain the difference between what should go in the "Travel" section and what should go in "Regional?"

I assume that regional is for non-travel related content that relates to the region. For example, let's look at Mexico. "The Best Beaches of Baja" would be travel related while "Muy Macho: Mexico's Machismo Culture" or "Tips for Commuting to and from Tijuana for San Diego Business Professionals" are less touristy and more regional in nature. Hmnn, two new article ideas :)

I think "travel" is region unspecific. Like "10 Ways to Make Your Flight More Pleasant."

You could be right, Ed, but I don't think that is a conclusion buyers would automatically (or reasonably) come to. This category dilemma bothers me a lot. Personally, it's not good for me in terms of sales. I hope it is reconsidered. CC - please see my post in the site renovations category. Thanks.

Yes. I tried it last night and was able to change a category on one of my articles. Easy!

Just discovered that most of my travel articles are listed under "Regional". I do hope we see this change really happen.

You can change the category yourself now. Just go into Edit and make the change.

Yep, I'm aware of that. It's just difficult to know what to do.

It's like the old category system in that respect: having to second-guess where a buyer will look. I have several articles on Central America, for example. There is a Central America subcat under "Regional," but the articles are decidedly travel guides. Should I choose "Regional" or "Travel?"

It's a decision I wish I didn't have to make.

I hope that CC will ditch the "Travel" cat ultimately, and change the word "Regional" to "Travel" and include the same subs. As it is now, it's just confusing. I'm sure many buyers will miss the fact that "Regional" even exists if they stop at "Travel," meaning they'll miss quite a bit of content that IS travel content.
