I'm posting this again, because it mysteriously disappeared a short while ago. I caught it while checking to see if there were any responses to it yet.

Anyhow, I have a question regarding famous quotes. I was considering using a famous quote by the Greek philosopher Epictetus in an article I'm working on, but I'm a bit concerned because the quote is already all over the web and I'm wondering whether using it the way it's usually written will set off the plagiarism checker. Honestly, I'm not even sure how that really works.

A quote attributed to Greek philosopher Epictetus reads: “We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.” Such words serve...

That's what I had in mind, more or less. I wonder if it would be better this way, or paraphrasing it somehow, while still mentioning Epictetus. Then again, does a quote this old by someone long dead, who's words have been translated a gazillion different ways even raise an eyebrow? I've never really used an old quote like this in my work here, or even elsewhere, I don't think. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
