Have I been a jerk,or an idiot?

Post by MarikaRamos »

Oh, boy...
First, an apology; I'm sorry, I just assumed the average price per article was twenty bucks, because that's what I saw when I first found this site. I had no idea I was "lowballing". I've written off-line, and been paid more, but this is my first online writing gig; I just figured it didn't pay as much.
Now...Would someone please confirm or deny this? I saw a post for "Word Gypsy hits 1000", and someone said it took them a couple of weeks to post 1000 articles?!? Are you serious? I thought we had to write mostly on spec-on request-and then just sit and sweat until it sells! Are you saying I can write and post as much as I want, charge more money for my work, and not end up having the editors hunt me down and strangle me in my sleep?
Do you know how happy that would make me?

That's the deal here, Marika. The more you write, the more often, the better for you and the better for CC. The better for us editors, too, if your work is error-free and readable, and you've produced spot-on content so far.

Write away, charge a fair price, and watch your articles sell. Sometimes it takes awhile for an article to sell that isn't for a request - sometimes it only takes minutes. However, the more articles you have for customers to choose from, the more likely you'll get a nice surprise when one or more of your articles sell when you weren't expecting it.

Marika,
Lol! If I could post 1000 articles in a few weeks, I'd be able to retire soon. Seriously though, I have been at cc since November of 2006. I didn't realize in the beginning that I could submit outside of requested articles either. Ed is giving you excellent advice. In fact, I recently sold the very first article that I posted way back when for a second time (usage rights only). What a thrill to sell something from that long ago. Write away to your heart's content. Best of luck to you!

Gypsy-
I THOUGHT that was a joke, lol. Then again, you could have insomnia and be over-caffienated...tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tap...
At least now I no longer feel lazy, lmao.

Marika,
I actually do write when I have that occasional bout of insomnia. I figure that if I can't sleep, I might as well make money!

I'd prefer to write at night, but I've got a toddler and a grade-schooler, so I'm usually in bed before midnight. :( I can't wait until summer vacation; I'll be able to stay up all night! Yay!
Okay. I have GOT to get some work done....
