Proofreading exchange, anyone?

Post by braxton »

I've noticed several threads on the difficulty of proofreading one's own work. I find I can do it best when I've left the copy alone for a few days, but that's not always practical.

I propose a casual exchange of proofreading between members, e.g. you proof an article for me, I'll do one for you. A prolific writer might want to exchange with two or three others who are writing less, so as to keep the work load fairly balanced. If I ask someone to read a long article for me, I'd expect to read another long one, or a couple of short ones, from them.

To facilitate the getting together of interested writers, I could post a list of pen names, email addresses and basic info such as topics of interest, number of articles a week, etc. Alternatively, we could set up a Yahoo group, or the CC webmasters may want to host such a list of interested parties.

After a little searching around, I would expect most writers to find another one or two people with whom they feel comfortable working (at which point they could have their name made removed on any posted list of proofreaders).

proofreading

Hi braxton
I've just read your post and think it's a wonderful idea to support each other in this way - although I'm fairly busy at the moment, I'd be more than happy to help you with some proofreading. I totally agree it's often best to leave a piece for a day or two but understand this isn't always possible or practical ... anyway, I can be contacted via email and will be happy to help if I can :-)

Thanks Linda. I can't find any way to contact you off list. My email is braxton _AT_ ponderhealth.com (but tomorrow I'm going on vacation for a couple of weeks)
