Celeste, Hayley, and others, an interesting thing!

You know Celeste, I received an anonymous comment on **blog post edited** this morning. It reads:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Ha Ha After your article was rejected 3 times on CC, you posted it here. Celeste said it was full of grammatical errors and you give grammar lessons on your blog :)
---------------------------------------------------------------
I then went ahead and found the person who did it. Here are the details:
Location: India (possibly New Delhi or Uttar pradesh, Agra)
IP Address: 122.173.230.197 (can't say static or dynamic now)
Resolution 1024, browser firefox, using Windows. Logged in at 12:54 AM Indian time, when the comment was recieved. Visited three other pages of my site.
Can anyone get any idea of who this anonymous guy might be? I mean, I have nothing against him, but it's interesting to find the person, and explain to him. Thanks.

I'm sorry somebody would post a comment like that on your blog, VJ. I'd just delete the comment and try not to worry about mean-spirited comments. Chin up, the world is full of critics and you're smart enough to learn and explore this incredibly difficult language. You're amazing (I can't believe you've only spoken English to two or three Englishmen!) and learning and sharing as you go, so hang in there.

Hi Vjlenin,
Celeste is right. You are doing an amazing job in mastering what can be a very tricky language, even for those who speak English natively. Many English speaking people cannot write as well as you can, and have more grammatical errors than in the small sample of your work I have been privileged to see. Every writer I have ever known has made some errors at some point. Life is too short to worry about such mean people. It is highly likely that it is from an author who has registered here but never had the courage to submit articles at all, or has also been rejected, and just wants to share the sour feeling around by making you feel bad too. I would follow Celeste's advice to delete and ignore such a mean-spirited post too. I have no idea how you would go about tracking this person down anyway!
The post would certainly not be representative of other people's opinions on CC!
Kind regards,
Hayley

Hi Vj,
I just had a look at your author profile. You have over 40 articles approved, and have sold more than 40 licences, so some of your articles that have sold for full rights must have sold twice or more. You are doing very well here. I certainly wouldn't worry about anyone who is just mean and probably hasn't had any articles published or sold here on this site!
Kind regards,
Hayley

Thanks, Celeste, Hayley. Actually, I am not worried at all about this guy. Whoever he/she is, I just wanted to meet him u know. Just to tell him it's just normal to feel how he feels. Anyway, I don't approve many anonymous comments in my blog. Sad that somebody spites me for my tiny-as-it-may-be success. Planning to submit more articles and seeing more success here, but I must get two articles in queue to be approved.
Yes, Celeste, talking to too few English people, I couldn't really write quite like an English man. But you know, watching sitcoms like Friends for instance, I have quite a bit of an understanding of how Americans speak. That helps me a lot.
You two are doing great for helping authors here, Cheers.

I can't write like an Englishman either :) I do okay as an American girl, but haven't quite figured out the UK's style of English.

I don't write like an Englishman either - I write like a girl from downunder!

Oh yes, you people are talking about the British. hehe. I was actually referring to the West in general you know. We here learn the most basic form of English, and some of our writers may mix and match with styles to invent their own styles. I really can't figure out the difference between American and British writers, as I read both and don't much care about their usages. I may use both styles.

It's just a case of people behaving badly. Sour grapes, probably. Take a deep breath and be proud of your successes here. Well done.
I'm English/Canadian. While Canada follows the Brit rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation, we are so close to the US and much of our print media Is American, so we grew up with a strong understanding of the differences. When I write for CC, I use US spellings. When I write for a Canadian media, I use Brit/Canadian. Canadians have that unique advantage because we've always known both.

There's a very big difference between learning the grammatical rules of English, and actually writing in an easy-to-understand style. I just had an article rejected because I was hasty and I'm sure it could be better. I am a native English speaker, with a graduate course in English grammar under my belt, and I make mistakes too. English is so tricky because the structure and construction of the language is ever-changing and very ad hoc due to the nature of its beginnings.
I honestly have not taken another look at it right now because it is a universal subject, and I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment with impending labor (body thinks it's real cute to practice for a few hours, and then quit.... over and over again. But it is moving baby down and I am starting to dilate... will know how much more tomorrow, last week I was on 2 cm).
I agree with Celeste, ignore the person. Who knows, they may be one of our more animated people lately in the various posts throwing a fit about the "attitude" of C-C. We all get rejections, we all get acceptances. It's what you do with both that matters. :)

Hi all, I got my article on mob wars accepted. Thanks, Hayley., your help has been enormous in it. I was away on other work for several days, and was actually waiting to see this article accpeted. It gives me some moral boost as I submitted one more article today, which was rejected earlier because I had added some unnecessary keywords in the keyword list. I hope the article itself is without errors. Thinking about submitting more and more articles in coming days. I need to make this a serious job.

Congratulations! I'm glad you got your article accepted. I've found that if you want CC to pay like a serious job, you need to submit articles regularly. Best of luck with building up your portfolio of more accepted articles.
