Writers,

A regiment is a military unit.

Now that we all know this, isn't the idea of a skin care regiment, a makeup regiment, or an exercise regiment pretty funny?

The word you want is "regimen."

The word "regime" describes a type of government. Wait before you protest. I've seen this word used to describe a "regular course of action" even in books that are about regimes, and M-W.com indicates that it is a synonym for "regimen" - so it's permissible. However, AP agrees that "regime" and "regimen" are two different things.

The idea of a makeup regime, with the AP understanding of the word, is pretty hilarious.

So use the word regime if you want, but please never use regiment.

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

But there are several "makeup regimes" in the world. Look for those ugly pink Mary Kay cars sometime. Some of those representatives remind me of little dictators with the way they pursue those awards.

When the Mary Kay party takes over, all other cosmetics will be confiscated. Those who try to manufacture, home-brew, or distribute Cover Girl will be exiled to No-Pedicure land for 12 years. The authority will be called a pedi dictator.
