Question about citing sources

Post by Megan »

I am currently writing an article about certain people that are in the public's eye. I used multiple websites (some of them 'official' websites, others not) and am wondering if I should include a section at the end to list the websites that I used? Some of the information I knew on my own, but quite a bit of it I needed to research.

Just want to avoid any problems . . .

Sources are great, but not necessary for entertainment-focused articles. If your article was on, say, Anna Nicole Smith, you probably wouldn't need sources unless you had some very specific information that was not publicly available. If your article was on Al Gore, you probably would.

I say use your best judgement. It's best to say in the short summary that sources/references/resources are included in the article, especially if you are using web sources.

In addition, you could say something like, "According to the official Anna Nicole Smith fan website, blah blah blah."

Does this help?

Absolutely. It actually focuses on political figures, so I will include sources. I guess I will just list them at the end of the article under a sources heading? The information is all blended together, so I would rather not do the 'according to...' method of citing.

Sounds good. If they aren't peer-reviewed journals, please cite them without using the full web address so they don't become links. Thanks.
