More Thievery

Heads up: I just found an article of mine stolen and reprinted on a site called Articlet - articlet.com - You may want to check it out to see if any of your work is there. I looked briefly but didn't see anything else I recognized. Nevertheless, there are many categories that are similar to ours. I've asked support to check into it, and also mailed support at the other site - to ask them to take it down.

Question: I thought that we had an alert embedded into our summaries - "This article is the property of so and so and is being reprinted without the author's permission". How are people getting around this? I'm not getting any alerts.

I wonder if thieves are printing out hard copies and then re-typing CC stuff.

Articlet.com had a few of my articles up on their site a while back, and I know other authors here were in the same boat. I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think the site owners took down all of the articles that were stolen without too much hassle - or maybe with a bit of hassle, I can't really remember now. Here's hoping your's is down sooner rather than later.

And yeah, those alerts don't work. I set a Google alert for "This article is the property of so and so and is being reprinted without the author's permission" and I've never received an alert for stolen articles. I've also set Google alerts for a couple dozen of my articles (I used 2 or 3 sentences from the article to create the alert), and even though some of those have been stolen, I've never received an alert. Just for fun, I set a Google alert for an article I had sold that was up on a site, and I never received an alert for it, either. So I think it's safe to write off Google alerts - they don't seem to work.

Whenever I have the time, I Bing (I'm still trying to make that catch on!) my unsold articles to see if they have been stolen. It's time consuming, and I only do a few articles at a time, but aside from using Copyscape it's the only way to see if someone stole your articles.
