Experience of a Buyer

I sometimes buy print advertising so I was sitting with a magazine publisher recently. I told him about CC, so he posted several requests. A few writers responded. Several just fed him rephrased stuff that is already easy to find online, but one writer from Edmonton provided some fresh articles. He bought them and now has assigned that writer several more articles for the magazine. This is going to be a nice gig for that writer.

-Put the effort in to create fresh engaging articles, not just wikipedia rewrites.
-Treat public requests as an audition
-Keep writing and submitting, the sales and private request clients will follow.

Thank you for sending a customer to C-C, JadeDragon. I'm glad the customer found good content! Your advice to us writers is spot on, too. Some topics are too easy--that's why we have to find unique angles, fresh insights, and expect to get paid fairly for our efforts.

And congrats to the writer who scored the gig... Keep doing things right and good will come to you.

I'll also add that he was pleased the writer was totally open to him adding quotes and changing the articles to fit his print publication. (another success hint) In print there are very specific space constraints that are not applicable on the web to the same extent. He had good things to say about his experience here and as I mentioned he is continuing to buy through private requests. I'll be seeing an article in print on Corporate Housing that profiles my business bought through CC soon.

I've now crossed 100 authors referred to CC. 90% have never done anything, and the few that started have not done much with it, but they collectively have made 16 sales (a high number compared to accepted articles). It is pretty clear to me that the number one issue at CC is writers who fail to write. If you write, it WILL SELL!

This was neat to read! I hope I get the chance one day to refer someone here who needs to find writers. Talk about a way to benefit everyone.

I think I remember Celeste posting somewhere that only 10% of CCs writers ever write articles to sell here. To me, that means there isn't near as much competition as I thought (which I'm all right with.... :) ) but also it says that there are lots of buyers out there who would buy more if they saw more they liked. And that's where the writers who want to make money come in and write it.
