"Stolen" Content

OK, C-C friends. Here's a good story about stolen content. I know--but you can believe it.

I was poking around Google and ran across an article I'd posted on my own blog and made available on C-C for usage rights. It was also on an unrelated blog. I was in the mood so I posted a catty comment advising the "author" that he'd stolen the content and should probably come to C-C to get usage rights.

Once that was out of my system, I forgot the whole thing until tonight when I got a message from the blog's author and a "Constant-Content Article Sold!" message. Lo and behold, he did the right thing and bought the article.

Turns out, a friend got the article from a friend (who stole it from my blog) and sent it to him. So in essence he didn't steal it, and he could have just ignored the situation. Now, his friend's friend deleted my stern disclaimer telling my blog readers to visit C-C to buy usage rights if they liked the article... So SOMEBODY owes my customer 17 bucks.

This story doesn't restore my faith in humanity, but it does restore my faith that there are good, honest folk in the world. It may never happen again, but it happened once.

It's good to know that somebody out there in the lawless land of Internet did the right thing.

If only all content thieves were like this one . . .
