Question about HITS

Post by DMCarter »

Hi,

I am new to this process and have a quick question about the number of Hits my articles are getting. First off, I have no idea how many hits is considered average. Also, I was wondering if someone can tell me 'on average' how many hits an article might see before it is finally purchased.

Thanks

This is a tough question, because I've sold articles after the first hit and after 100. You have to determine your own stats and how aggressive you want to be. For me, I will not take low offers and I'm OK with an article getting 100 hits and sitting for months before a sale. Some people use CC as a major part of their income, so they check stats, change prices and are much more aggressive with sales. I'd say after a couple dozen hits (30ish maybe?), it would be something you could use to alter the price or reread the content to see if you want to do something to entice someone to buy.

It's really all about your own preference here.

HITs is pretty meaningless. Could be other writers checking out your work, tire kicker buyers, featured on the front page etc. A broad appeal article with a cool title might get more hits than a technical piece. All you really need is that one buyer, not a bunch of hits.
