My prices?

Post by Megan »

In the past, I priced everything ... well, not ridiculously low but not as high as I probably could have. So, I started pricing new articles a tad bit higher. They sat forever and never sold. So about a month ago I lowered them. Anyhow, I haven't sold ANYTHING in quite awhile.

I know that a large factor is the fact that I haven't written for any requests and only have a few articles for sale right now...but in the past I have still sold an occassional article this way.

If anyone happens to have a spare moment, would you mind taking a quick peek at my prices and letting me know if you think they are too high?

Thanks!

Hi, Megan,

I don't think there's anything wrong with any of your prices. I've also experienced a couple of slow months and some VERY slow weeks recently, and I consistently write 3 articles daily, on a wide variety of topics. I think it's just a slow time right now; Constant-Content is a wonderful place to work, but the work is still freelance, and that means that there will be weeks when no-one bites.

That's my take on it, anyway. But it's not just you; things are slow for me right now, too. :D

It does seem slower than usual, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I'm not sure exactly why, but hopefully it will pick up. I'd have to look back through my records, but I think May might have been slow for me last year too. Anyway, I wouldn't adjust prices quite yet...while a lot of lower priced articles are selling for use rights lately, I'd stay firm about full rights pricing--if it's good, it will sell eventually. Good luck. JA

Sometimes we just go through slow weeks or months. What I usually do when that happens is write more articles. They're usually things that I want to write about - I don't often do requests - but I love writing. And when I'm *doing* something, I don't have time to sit and worry about nothing selling. :)

Good budgeting helps, too. I had a really good month in...March, I think it was, when I made twice as much as I need to live on per month. Instead of spending it, I set it aside. So, I can make absolutely nothing one month this year and still come out even. And so far, I haven't had a month where I made absolutely nothing. This month, it's looking like I'll be a little short...but, again, that's okay. Setting aside the surplus means I don't have to worry in the slow times. Which, I realize that isn't for everyone, but since I'm using CC as my primary income, it's very important for me. :-)
