I finally did it... I switched my operating system to Linux Ubuntu!!!

There have been a few kinks, but my husband fixed it for me. I don't go near the Terminal yet... but one day I probably will be able to mount stuff myself.

The good news is my computer is FAST!!! I click, it goes. No more hourglasses, no more errors, no more "Would you like to send an error report?" Plus, when I do something to change my settings, it just changes them, no "Are you sure, are you really really sure you want to apply these settings?" LOL.

Plus, a cool thing I am already in love with is workstations. It kinda like having 4 desktops. I have one for writing, one for when I'm just playing on the Internet, and one for email. It's far better than a ton of windows open on the bottom.

Ubuntu is like the best blending of Mac and Windows, without all of the idiot proofing. Sorry WIndows and your worldwide conglomerate, I'm not buying anymore!!!!

My mini-laptop (eee-pc by asus) came preloaded with Linux (Xandros I think) and I LOVE it.

Boots up in about 20 seconds.


My desktop computer is Windows XP and I find I avoid using that computer!

good work, linux is most secure os . and u may wish to check out other releases like redhat, novel etc.

Whoa Nelly, I know nothing about the other "flavors" as my hubby calls it, of Linux. This is my first foray, but it's fun.

I have everything I need for my writing business: open office, evolution (email), firefox, and Tomnotes (sticky notes for priorizing like Celeste always recommends). Even better, I DON'T have anything to distract me, like Puzzle Pirates, Diner Dash, and all the other Big Fish Games. There are some games on Linux, but they are pretty boring, and along hte lines of Windows 3.1 games like snake race, klotski, and minesweeper. So when I play, I play for 5 minutes and I'm already back to work.

We have two other desktops in the house with XP, my stepson's (which is my old one) and the main one that actually has KDE, but runs XP in Virtual box.

Yes, my husband and I are huge dork. We actually joined the Charleston South Carolina Linux Users Group, and went to a meeting on Sunday!
