Most popular categories
I think it would be great if you could have some 'most popular categories' information for authors to view. Maybe listing the top 5 categories (in terms of total sales etc.) over the past week or month. When people are new to the site and/or do not frequently check the 'Recently Sold Articles', I think it would be helpful to have some statistics to refer to. Not necessarily exact figures, maybe just a ranking of topics.

That would be nice but you know what I want....a newsletter!
"The Constant-Content Newsletter" highlighting everything from new sign-ups to top buyers with stories about customers and writers...we need contests too and writing tips!
(OUCH...Chris don't kick me!)
LOL...Am I thinking too big? Or not big enough?
LJ
PS. I would be a volunteer staff editor or whatever...I would help!

I like the newsletter idea!
Hi Ladyjade,
I really like the newsletter idea! I've been having a distant feeling from CC because my own business got really busy, but it would be nice to get an e-zine in email with updates, interesting things about the site, etc., etc. That would keep us in touch even when we feel soooooo far away.
The newsletter could also have writing project ideas for writers. Let's say..... If Chris wants to promote a certain topic (like health and fitness) in the search engines and look for new buyers. He could put a request in the newsletter as a project for writers.
Then, once we write a batch of articles on the topics Chris can begin his promotions with our article pages and the main category pages, bringing buyers directly to those categories they're looking for! What buyer wouldn't be thrilled to already have his articles waiting for him when he gets here???
It would be a win-win situation for everyone, I think - correct me if I'm wrong, Chris.
By the way, Ladyjade, I'm from Lancaster, SC. I noticed you are in Charleston. It's a small world after all.
See you later!

Hey Candice, or hey neighbor!
I'm glad you like the newsletter idea too plus I know what you mean about getting busy, I've been blessed with loads of work lately so I'm not complaining.
Actually I'm between Charleston and Beaufort, originally from Kentucky, I love S.C. though. It's just a little hot.
Great idea pitching 'Big Daddy' so he can see the obvious benefits of a newsletter too. (he's always watching I'm sure) I like to think of him as Santa.
I have so many contest ideas for both writers and buyers, so many I can't fit them all here! One that could be developed right now...
The Constant-Content Christmas Cashathon!
Everyone wants Christmas Cash and there are so many ways this could be done from submission contests, top seller of the week, top buyer of the week and so on. Cash prizes, discounts, gift cards, mystery prizes and visions of sugar plums dance through my head LOL.
Let's see what 'Big Daddy' says!
LJ
PS. I wonder if 'The Invisible One' will comment on this one too!

Okay.. I re-read this whole thread.. I need to start paying better attention to some of these threads. I got a nick name some where in one of these threads.
I didn't realize you volunteered , here I was hinting you should handle this project.
If you really are interested I think this is a great idea.. Contests, side projects, tips, etc...
It will take me some time to set up up but if your really interested Ljade I would love you to write the newsletters. We won't send them out too much but I can provide you with the content and you can rewrite it and add your own stuff. Email me chris at constant-content.com

LOL You finally got the nickname...I'm rollin here!
I wondered when a mention about that would come.
I'll e-mail you about the newsletter and I do believe that once monthly unless there was some really big news to announce would be good. Candice mentioned that she felt a little detached because she was busy with other projects...but see we all come 'home' to C-C!
So, it would be nice to have a newsletter just in case we do miss something.

I think the newsletter can be a good idea, only if it's kept to NEWS.
I don't like the idea of making us more competitive than we are now. We're a community and we're friends. Top seller lists (beyond what we've got) just doen'st jive with me. It's not a competition--we're all in this together. We already collectively rejected the rating system. Going into top seller or whatever would be the same thing.
Honestly, one of the reasons I like CC is that it doesn't give incentives or make people competitive with each other. If I noticed that it was becoming that way, I'd have to change the way in which I look at it. I write (and hopefully make money from it) for my own sake, not anyone else's.
What does everyone else think?

Hi Dorothy!
I think contests are great, not necessarily for the sake of competition because I totally understand where you're coming from. My personal idea of a contest would be to liven up a slow category, to fill it up like a submission contest and chances to gain some prizes, possibly some recognition. I think it adds a little fun to the community.
That would be the whole point, to have fun and help out C-C!
I think more people will post their feelings and Big Daddy (Chris) will know what direction to go in, you know that's one of the best things about Big Daddy ...he does listen.
Big Daddy if you read this (I know you will!) I do believe that Dorothy has a point. Although this is just an idea, maybe you should post this newsletter idea as a poll question to see what the community response is? Just an idea to get everyone's feedback, leave it up for a couple of weeks and see what happens.
LJ
PS.I sent that e-mail...hope you get it!

Ladyjade,
Not all of us have time to participate in a competition. Some of us have precious little time to write as it is. At the same time, I love the laid-back, do-as-you-will environment of CC--I know I can come and go as I please, write on what interests me, and always feel welcome.
As much as I crave privacy and solitude, I would feel isolated if I could not participate in "contests" and the like because I also must work. The requests come in and are answered so quickly, I have a hard time making my voice heard (articles posted) as it is, and I know that I am not the only one here trying to make a buck or two.
Also, have you considered where the money for "prizes" may come from?
If there was a newsletter, I would be more interested in information about how to make articles look professional, common grammar mistakes, etc.
I also think that sales are indicative of how many articles should be available in a subject matter--so filling up one that doesn't have much content in it may be a waste of time. After you stick around here for a little while, you get familiar with what is selling and what isn't. We all have our own interests and writing preferences, and this is what makes CC such a great place for the individual.
There is so much competition in our places of work, in our lives, even trying to drive on the highway--!!--that I would frankly quickly become exhausted if I couldn't keep up with yet another necessary task just to "keep ahead."
One reason I've been around here for as long as I have is the fairness that CC imparts upon its authors. We all have the same chance to make money, but we have to get there on our own. People coming in here looking for writers to write for them personally are gently steered towards the request area--for this reason I stay loyal to CC, just for one example.

Dorothy sweetie calm down there!
Remember the only thing said is the newsletter is a good 'idea' and I only gave my own views about contests...that doesn't mean there will be any though. I'm just a writer! LOL
You just sound a little upset.
I do know that all of us have the best interest of C-C at heart though, we are friends and I hope that you aren't upset with me because I meant no harm at all. You know that!
C'mon Dorothy, I even miss you when you're not here chattin!
Ok, I'm back to work y'all!

I really like the idea about a newsletter. I especially like the idea of sending out a theme so that if we wish, we can write up some articles about it, so that Chris can direct some people towards that section of the site.
If that would be possible, I think it could be beneficial to both us as writers, because we will get more exposure to the topics we are writing, and to the customers, because like someone already mentioned, it would be great for them if they arrived, and already had a section full of articles to choose from. Of course, if they were still unable to find exactly what they were looking for, then they could always leave a request with a better idea of what they are after.
I also liked the idea of giving us, the writers tips on how to improve our writing, and how to make something that would be more appealing to potential buyers. I think it would be very helpful, especially to the newbies around here.
Anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts. I can't wait to hear what happens from this.
