I was going to put together a little article with some quotations I have two questions.
1) instead of saying that the article is "by" me should I say "compiled by" me?
2) do I need to list the sources where I found the quotes?
Thanks guys.

Wellll...
Using a quote like:
"Life is What happens, when you're busy making other plans." ---- John Lennon.
is attributing it to the person who said it. But if I looked up the quote in Bartlett's quotations I wondered if I needed to list that as a source (since I may know a lot of quotes but it is good to confirm them for accuracy)

If you're quoting it as something that John Lennon said then you only need to reference him, otherwise you could write a 500 word article on one quote.
According to x book of quotes, who take their reference from the y quote dictionary, z once stated that 'I proofread to make sure I haven't any words out'...
