I'm glad that it's being looked into, but it seems an answer is no closer. I don't write anywhere online under my real name, so how could someone get it from another site? Let' say that I did, though. It's suspected that buyers are looking for our information elsewhere? Why would they need to do such a thing?

If the problem is with our files, do we then need to delete and resubmit all of our content?

If more than one person uses your computer and writes here, that means the wrong writer may get the credit for the piece.

I've just sold another spate of stuff and I'm terrified that it's going to be under the wrong name.

Just in case, I'd recommend putting a by-line in the article with your pen name. It may sound crazy, but nine times out of ten they'll leave that name alone and use it.

You may want to ask Ed if it might be a good idea to put your pen name in the short description as well.

I always, always, always put "By Celeste Stewart" under my title (I even have a shortcut Auto-Text key combination set up so that any time I type "bcs" those words magically appear). My Word docs still have my real name attached and I'm not really concerned about that (I'd change it if I was). I searched my real name the other day, and of hundreds of general articles out there, only two from CC showed up with my real name. That particular client already knew me by both names, so I can't say for sure if it was just an error on the client's part or what.

The funny thing is, one of the many reasons I chose a pen name was so I could write whatever without worrying about my personal credibility. For example, I thought that I'd be free to write about anything I wanted such as Viagra (not that I want to write about that) without worrying about my reputation. Turns out, now Celeste has her own reputation and credibility to worry about.

Exactly! And that's the reason this is so important to me. I have 80 articles here that don't have my pen name in the text.

Again: do I need to delete all these?

It seems like an awful lot of work to delete and resubmit 80 articles to me. I'd wait and see what support comes up with in the next few days as they are looking into the issue. I'd check with Support before doing anything drastic like deleting approved articles.

Just for the record, the short summary is not an appropriate place for a byline, but certainly include your byline in the document itself. Some authors place it at the end of their articles, but there is less chance that it will be overlooked if you place it right underneath the title in your document. I can't imagine why a customer would go out of the way to use a name that is not on the document itself. If the article isn't purchased for full rights, doing so would be a violation of unique and usage rights rules.

Okay...so how do I check the registration name on my Word? I'm using standard 2003. When I go to properties, there are no options available. Husband loaded it for me several years ago, did all the work. He said he registered his name. How do I check this? Sorry to ask such a mundane question, but I really want to get this fixed. If it came through Word, then I want to change it. Just so I'm making myself clear -- I right click on the icon, go to properties, then advanced but nothing is available. Is this the correct process?

Thanks for any help.

In Word 2003 or below, you can access the Properties dialog box by going to File> Properties. It defaults to the General tab which may not display the info you are looking for. Instead, click the Summary tab and see if your name is listed by the Author field. If so, change or remove it. I'm pretty sure you can permanently change this from displaying in the future, but I don't have Word 2003 handy, so I'm not sure of the exact steps. I'll let someone else chip in for Word 2003 and below.

For Word 2007 users, the process is different. In Word 2007, go to the Word button (upper left of screen), click on Prepare> Properties. You'll see a horizontal pane with: Author, Title, Subject, etc... If your name is in the Author field, you can change it right then and there.

Another option in Word 2007 is to choose Prepare> Document Inspector. Let the Document Inspector run and then follow the prompts to remove personal properties from your document.

And yet, one more option for Word 2007 users. To permanently avoid this in the future, go to Word button and choose Word Options. Under the Popular link, look for "Personalize your copy of Office" and change or remove the user name.

Thanks for those explicit instructions, Celeste.

I just finished checking and the answer is No. My legal name is not listed in Word. Therefore, the mystery is still very much alive as to how they got my legal name.

Thanks for your help.

It has to be from our site registration, then, somehow.

I am a bit disturbed: I sold another article last week -- to the same publisher who bought the first article. They published it and again, my real name is cited.

According to C Content in the last post -- they had found and checked the problem.

Also, according to an earlier post, I contacted help at CC as suggested. This was last week. I have heard nothing back from them and this concerns me.

I did a plagiarism check and of course, my article now shows up as 'plagiarised.' I need this fixed. At the very least, I need for CC to contact me with a course of action. This isn't a small problem.

Considering that I added my byline to the remaining of the articles, I'm dismayed that this has happened again. I am even more dismayed that my email to CC has gone unanswered. I'm new here and still trying to learn the lay of the land.

I STILL feel your pain! I'm upset that the original article I complained about weeks ago still bears my real name. I'm sure all it would take would be an e-mail from CC to get them to change it. I know the staff is busy, but this is a HUGE issue for me, and I've been told I am forbidden from contacting them myself (which could have solved the problem by now).

I e-mailed the name of the website to CC.

Hi MeggieHardy and geniuswaitress,

I've sent emails to the site owner asking him to change the by line to your respective pennames. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back from him.

Thanks,
