Sent Email to New Client - Help!

Post by airwolfe777 »

Hi Guys,

I got my first private client and she asked me to produce 5 articles per week and have them delivered by Friday morning each week. I submitted them on Tuesday and they are still in review mode. I heard that Ed was away this week and I did not want to lose the client - so I sent her a message through CC offering to email her the articles through my personal email and then she can pay whenever they get approved. I wasn't trying to "buck the system" - I just wanted to keep my first client happy. I still planned on accepting the payment through CC.

Then I got a response from CC reprimanding me for sending my personal email though the CC website.

Advice?

I don't want to lose my CC account over something stupid like this.

Help!

Celeste?

Best,

MJ

Yeah, we're not supposed to exchange emails with customers - it's a no-no. Looks like Ed is back, so hopefully the articles will get approved in time. It's still only Thursday.

When you have these kind of problems please just email support and let them know whats going on. It is better than trying to improvise on your own.

The easiest way is to ask your customer to send you private requests, instead of just PM'ing you through the site. I have a customer who just sends me the article subjects and potential titles, but he does so weeks before he needs them. Private and public requests usually go to the head of the que.

Although I've never asked a client to do a private request, or had one for that matter, I don't know if they can just ask for five articles each week like can be done with public requests.

I have had clients track me down outside the site, but I always send them to CC to buy (for which they agree because it's in their own interests) because they have the option of NOT buying. I'd rather give them a choice. If they can't use the piece, someone else probably can.

Definately, don't send the articles. If you can, write the articles early. If you only need five a week, write ten or fifteen the first week to give yourself cushion. Then you can write at a normal pace for the rest (plus giving you that extra time to have the articles accepted).
