article choices

Post by audrabianca »

I am toying with the idea of writing mini-article kits. That way customers pay me to think. For example, I might write an article that appeals to multiple audiences with 2 or 3 intro choices. Many more ideas go along with mini-article kits. It is one article sale, but the buyer can use whichever intro fits his or her web site. If you write about features to add to a web site that sells rare coins, target the introduction to diff. audiences with custom intros,(rare coin collector communities, sellers, and publications that serve both groups). Sometimes writers provide a generic introduction that references 3 audiences, but the article is not as effective. Site owners should not have to rewrite intros and conclusions to make an article fit. They may not have time to wait on a request.

In order for this to work, writers need flexibility in article design. For instance, list the article in reg. format and then include notes (i.e. alternate intros) and how to use the article for multiple formats (blogs, ezines, web sites, training materials). Another idea is an article template such as a generic press release (of course, the body is filled out). If I pay $100 for full rights for a web dev. article, I will use the article in as many ways as I can. I might submit to ezine and post on my site. I don't want the trouble of customizing the article. I could submit an example even if you reject it and we can post it here (because I keep full rights to some articles). You can identify how to make it work for editorial approval. If it conflicts with CC business model, I understand. I realize someone might take this idea, but we need to expand here. Writing earnings have been sad lately for me. There is a market for multiple content formats developed by writers. We need to keep up with changing environment. Think Issuu and Gazhoo.

Articles should always be written with a target audience in mind, and the entire article should be customized to that audience. I'm sorry, but I will be unable to accept articles that are submitted in a "pick your own introduction" format.

If you are willing to customize an introduction or an article, this can be stated in your author profile.

thanks, Ed.

I'm not convinced that will bring any more article sales than current buyer patterns, but I will try it.

Try suggesting several article titles. If the article is sound, you'll give your buyer the option of selecting which title catches them the most. I do this for one of my customers.
