Stolen article

Post by Lor »

Yesterday I pulled a few articles that have sat for a year with no nibbles. I thought I'd rework them and place them for page views.

While doing a little more research for one, I found it had been stolen 2/4/09 and name replaced. I've written to the guy and asked him to remove it, but should I address this issue to CC Admin? Also, there may be other articles from CC writers.
It's articlet dot com.

Will other articles be addressed at the same time? I picked a random title from the site's main page and Googled it, and it showed up as a CC article, too. Now I'm worried about how many hundreds might be on that site.

Grrr, I found at least two of my articles on AC under the byline Joyce Willis. I sent all the info the CC Support. I sure wish the contact form had a "Alert! Stolen Articles!" choice in the drop-down menu.

I'm going to look for all my articles online now. How irritating. I didn't get any Google Alerts :(

I feel your pain, Debbi! The last time I had an article stolen, I did receive an alert - but it came a few months too late! My stolen article was posted online for months, and I never knew because I trusted Google to alert me. Writing them an angry email is still on my to-do list.

And just a heads-up to everyone. Mrbluesky.org also has stolen content posted - two of mine, and some of the other titles seemed familiar. Thanks for the tip about Joyce Willis - she stole one of mine. Sending an email to Support now.

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it. Several of mine are there. JD at least one of your articles is there also. I recognize several other articles from other authors too. WG

Found two of my articles on Associated Content - one had been paid for with a usage license, the other stolen.

Maybe time for another round of searching for your work on Associated Content is in order, just to check that no one else's stuff has ended up there. The author on AC that had my stolen article was Peter Crouch.

I've emailed Support about this.

I have about 95 unused Copyscape searches that expire September 20, 2009.

PM me if you want me to do some searches for your content, I'd hate to see these go to waste.

Grr! Just found one of mine under 'Joyce Willis' at AC so thank you to Debbi for the heads-up about that thief! As far as I'm aware, this is the first time that my content has been stolen so I guess I've been a lot luckier than some of you up until now. I've just emailed support about it too.

I found 2 stolen articles on AC this month and I wrote to them immediately. If anyone is interested in going this route here is the link that explains how to contact them and the info you need to provide. They removed both articles promptly and booted the 'authors' off the site.

http://www.associatedcontent.com/pop_he ... elp_id=615

If you can't get to this site via the link, click on help at the bottom of the AC homepage, then FAQs and you'll see the copyright infringement section.

I also don't think that google alerts are working very well these days. I used to get tons of alerts, now I hardly get any...

Yep, I just did exactly this when I found one of my unsold articles on AC. The guy has like 40 articles up there, and the topics of so many I recognize from public requests that I'm certain I'm not the only one affected.

Copyscape has been really helpful - not to mention that for 5 cents you can see where your article ends up online for the voyeur in all of us.

Thanks everyone who has been affect by this for sending me your information via the support address. I'm following up on this at the moment and will post as soon as I have an update on the situation.

If you haven't yet received a response to your email sent to support, one is coming.

If you do find an article posted elsewhere please be sure to include a link to the article and a link to the same article on CC.

Thanks,

Greg,

what is this guy's name so we can go look at his list?

What a hassle. What kind of measures does AC take to keep this from happening and what happens to the people who do it? Banishment, I hope. Though I guess they can just sign up under a different name and do it again.

The name was Smith Johnson.

I sent the fax at 10:00am local time. Its now 11:00am and the content and author has been removed from AC. Pretty impressive turnaround time, wow.
