Comment regarding rejection and a thank you

Post by AnneM »

Hi

The reason I am posting this is that I would first like to thank Ed, and then, even though some may consider it not my place since I am new here, I would like to say that I don't understand why people are complaining about the rejection messages. I probably am going to get stoned by some people who disagree with me, and considered too forward because I am new.

I got an article rejected a little earlier but Ed was very kind to show me exactly what was wrong with my article, the wording was a bit odd and I fully agree. Honestly, the only thing else he could have done was rig up big, flashing, fluorescent pink arrows to show me what was wrong lol... I fixed it, resubmitted and the article was accepted.

So this is just a note to say thanks Ed, and to show those who think he is out to get you, that you couldn't be farther from the truth.

I personally think one of the biggest divisons between professional writer and amatuer/hobby writer is the handling of rejection. Even though some people will post on here "I've been published X times here....." and "I've been a writer for 15 years and have never been rejected....." it's a little hard to believe that is true if they can't handle a rejection with poise and grace. When one is a writer for only 15 months, you routinely encounter rejection. It's how the writing game works, we are all constantly auditioning. I think the real story is in some cases, these complaining writers underestimated the professionalism of Constant-content because it is an online writing outlet. There are a number of online article directories accepting everything that give the good ones a bad rap. I've been writing here for 2 years now, and I still sweat if I dotted all my i's and t's, and I don't submit unless I have taken time away and then reread my work.

Good luck to you Anne, and it's great you are growing from the rejection rather than letting it hold you back. :)

Plus, if anyone would stone you for saying something nice because they can't handle their own personal rejection notices, well then, they're just plain mean. Fortunately, I don't think you'll experience that here. Ed is indeed fair. That you took his advice, applied it, and got your article accepted shows that an open mind and a willingness to make the necessary changes isn't that difficult.
