NaNoWriMo Anyone?

Post by MediaMaven »

With the amount of prolific writers here I wonder why I haven't yet heard mention of NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month - www.nanowrimo.org.

I was wondering if this might tie in to the monthly challenges? Instead of writing a novel, why don't we set an article word-count goal for the month of November?

Now with NaNoWriMo the idea is to set a very high word-count goal with the full intention that what you write will not be prize-winning prose. For me, that means taking all of the topic ideas I've been hoarding and bashing out some draft articles from them. You put away your "inner editor" and forget that your delete key exists.
Quantity over quality (I think I can hear Ed screaming in agony now). I'm certainly not advocating that you try to write AND submit the content during November. It's likely that some of my drafts might be so bad that after November I just chuck them and start over.

I think I'm going to set a word-count goal of 10,000 words - a big goal for me because I have three other jobs! Each week I'll aim for 2500 words. If and ONLY if I meet my 2500 word goal for the week will I let myself into my drafts folder to edit my articles.

Hi Media Maven,

Yes, absolutely this ties in with the monthly challenges. In fact, your idea is blended into this month's challenge:
