Help!

Post by Lazers »

I don't understand it.. On my first few days here, I wrote and had accepted two articles, one which even sold, so evidently my writing was good enough to warrant someones hard earned money. But since then, it's just been Rejection, Rejection, Rejection! What's gone wrong? Can anyone offer some advice? Or have the 'acceptance boundaries' been raised now I've had an accepted article?

Your rejection notices have been pretty detailed in pointing out the problems in your articles. Please apply that information to your articles upon revision. In addition, please make sure that you follow the rules for comma usage consistently. While there has been a major improvement, errant commas are sometimes inserted, which can create problems with clarity.

Overall, please make sure your intended meaning is always absolutely clear. This goes along with making sure all pronouns clearly refer back to their respective antecedents to avoid confusion for the reader. It's the writer's job to make sure that the reader isn't tripped up by questions they have about what the writer means.

The following reference discusses sentence clarity, including the practice of making sure that pronouns clearly refer to their respective antecedents:

You might want to take a little more time away from your articles to read them the way a reader might. This practice gives you the opportunity to take a step back from the article and "forget" what you've just written so that you can be more objective about how words, phrases, and punctuation come together to convey meaning.

Thanks,
Ed
