Ed's advice

I'm starting to hear Ed's voice in my head, except I don't know what Ed's voice sounds like so it's more like a whisper.

I just finished a first draft of something and one particular sentence kept jumping out at me. Ed wouldn't like it the little voice said. Too narrow in focus. Try a more generic approach. So I changed it and Ed's little voice was right, it did sound better with the change.

Is it normal to be haunted by Ed's voice whispering in your ear as you write?

Yes, I often hear Ed saying: "Is that comma in the right place?" and "Is that sentence clear?" Ed is a great help and he probably doesn't even realise how much he helps us all!

I don't hear Ed's voice, but I do consider everything I've learned from past rejections. And when I'm proofing over and over and over again, I find myself looking for all the it's/its misbehaves, checking each sentence on its own, enlarging the print, reading out loud, but slowly and in a drone-like voice and then proofing again when it's on the submit page. So I guess in a way, I do hear his voice. <gr>

I wish I would have heard his voice more this week while writing! I got a little enthusiastic and had six in the review queue at one time. I'd been limiting it to three and it was going fairly well so I upped my game a little. Oops.

I am beginning to see a pattern in my strengths and weaknesses. I seem to do well with business articles, finance, marketing and so forth. But non-business topics... those seem to trip me up.

Maybe it's the different frame of mind when writing one type versus the other. All I know is that it's very scary to get a rejection, knowing that the door could slam shut. My heart drops into my belly and sits there like I ate too many onions.

I'm pretty sure I've seen David (Constant) refer to Ed as a "he." The reason why I remember that is because he said "he" had been in the industry for some crazy amount of time.... like 30 years.

I had seen another writer refer to Ed as a she, but I don't know. I thought Ed's a he, and then saw that and thought Ed's a she, and then saw another one refer to Ed as a he, and...

I saw somewhere that Ed might be a we. But most places he's just a single Ed.

I was searching the forums with a question and found a post that predates Ed.

Before Ed there was a team and they would post to the forums as "Article Admin". So did our beloved Ed replace a whole team? Or is there a team of Eds?

This thread should be renamed: The Multiple Eds, or maybe The Multiple Personalities of Ed. If there's really just one Ed then he would be Super Ed.

I remember Article Admin, but Ed was here at the same time. As far as I know, Ed's been here forever. There can only be one Ed

My assumption is Editor. Ed could even be female, you know. Ed could be short for Edwina. Although that changes my mental image of Ed too. I have a lovely image of a bespectacled gentleman running his fingers through the remaining hair in between the bald patches on his head (results of tearing his hair out because silly authors keep making the same mistakes!). Ed is probably nothing like that, but that's my mental image of our illustrous Ed.

P.s. I just checked the recently sold list and saw this one: Medical conditions that cause premature grey hair - I wonder if acting as the gatekeeper at Constant Content qualifies as a medical condition?
