WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in March of 2008 there was a public request for healthy recipe ideas for lunch. C-C was inundated (public requests were a little sparser back then) with recipes, probably many of the recipes you see in the library today. C-C no longer accepts recipes, and I'm not arguing they should.

My recipe for avocado substitution for mayonnaise just sold usage for $5. LOL. I never thought that would ever sell. So keep writing to those public requests, they eventually... really e-v-e-n-t-u-a-l-l-y get picked up.

Now where to spend my $3.25.

I used to live in San Diego remember? I was actually living there when I found C-C. Now my sister lives out there with her husband (he is on the same submarine my husband was) We pay $1-$2 each for Haas avocados here. I bought Florida avocados last shopping trip, they were okay, but they are sweet and citrusy tasting, like the avocado was making out with an orange.

Congrats! I wrote five articles to a recent public request and only two sold, so if the other three eventually sell way down the line like yours did, I'll be stoked! On another note, I just hit the sale of my 100th license and I promised myself a little celebration when I got to that milestone, so tonight is gonna be a good night! Maybe I'll go buy myself a citrusy avo...

I'm at 98 accepted articles and 75 license sold. But there are 3 in the review process, so hopefully that will be the 100 article mark soon. Hmm maybe I should celebrate too! And then celebrate again when I get to 100 licenses sold.

Um, errr-- did you notice how long I've been here? I have a feeling my sales rate has more to do with how slowly I add titles (super part-time writer here, mainly it was a hobby that made money) than my writing ability per se. That's what is nice about the editorial process here, if it passes muster, it will eventually sell. One day. In the future.

But I dabble in other arenas too. I am testing Twitter spamming my AC articles to try to make that place worth it, again. LOL. I have no idea why I don't give up on the place, I actually was happy to see $5.55 offered for my piece on Catelynn learning to crawl/babyproofing article. I think I keep trying because AC takes articles that C-C doesn't market, like personal accounts that are important to get off your chest. So far my 19 followers bring me an extra 50-75 clicks per day (people click who aren't my followers, like I wrote a "really not shocked Toyota has a recall" article and it got 50 clicks from twitter after posting it 7 times over the last 3-4 days. I just started tweeting last Thursday. Sad I know, since guess how I first heard about Twitter? About 3 years ago, back when I still had to fly my stepson escorted, around Christmas time I sat next to one of the developers. He wasn't a main one, he was someone who worked on the project, and we got to talking about open source. This is how new twitter was, he was working on twitter free in his spare time (it was open source I think back then) and an IBM consultant by day (why he was on the plane). He commuted to his jobs by plane, just lived outside Atlanta. LOL.

Because I'm not a US resident, I've always avoided AC, thinking they won't pay me anything. That may or may not be still the case. Anyway I use Helium to post articles that have sold for usage rights here. Sometimes they need adapting a bit, but mostly I just have to chnge the title. Recently I found that one of my articles there had been sold for stock content and they paid me $5. The same article here netted me $13 for usage rights. I can't help wondering what kind of cut Helium takes from that kind of transaction. Their marketplace requests are relatively high paying.

True but I *hate* rating. I cannot stand seeing articles with terrible introductions and full of grammatical errors ranked in the top 10%. And then I lose ranking ability because I'm stricter than most raters? I've sold 2 marketplace articles, but the marketplace is like our public requests on crack. I've seen 40+ submissions to one marketplace article. But unlike here, you don't get it, that's it, no secondary market. At least here on C-C, I may compete with 40 other writers (that's an exaggeration, I think the most I've seen is like 10-20 writers) but if my article doesn't sell, there are still buyers who could come along and buy it.

Back on topic, I saw several sales on the same topic presumably by the same author. I remember when the articles appeared in the new articles list. They were unexpected and I was wondering who'd buy them. Now it looks like they're all selling. Today is a happy day for somebody!

Even saw a sale of an article about Valentine's jewelry, sold a day after V-Day. I wouldn't have expected that.

I saw someone post a 2000+ word article and I made a note of it so I could follow it out of curiosity.

Us newbies cling to every iota of sales info, every story of when others were newbies, and I smile sadly when I read the stories of when some of you were clicking on the what sold, newest added, etc. Yuppers. I do that a lot when I should be writing.

I especially cling to the stories of the early days of HayleyWriter and AudraBianca. Both of you seem to be doing so well now but the early days had a few potholes. You both were so open in the forums and I really appreciate being able to read those old posts. I cling to those stories because my journey has potholes and the stories give me hope.

Sometimes I'm full of optimism, other times it's all doom and gloom wondering if Ed will decide I'm just not worthy of it.

Last week I was feeling very optimistic. I was off sick and made use of the time. I am 62% of the way to my first goal, the magic number of articles where everybody says it really starts to pop.

This week, no optimism, just the droopies.

And back to optimism this morning like a ping pong ball. Woke up with ideas for two series of articles and am fully stoked.

Found an old thread where Lysis was a newbie. It really helps to follow the journeys of all the writers who survived the fires and built thriving communities in your portfolios. Reading Ed's public advice to each of you as you hit stumbling blocks helps carry me thru the gloomy periods. Hope exists. Thank you, Ed, for the hours you spend giving advice in the forums.

Ran across an author, don't know if she's knew or just stagnant, but her portfolio shows 12 articles written and 15 usage licenses sold.
