Question about 'door furniture'

Post by Jaye »

Just a quick question. Here in Ireland the term 'door furniture' is used to describe door handles, door knockers, letter boxes - everything that you might find on a front door. Is the same term used in the US?

Thought as much. Didn't see that term being used on any American door websites. Will stick to 'door handles'! Thanks for your help.

I've not heard of it either, and I'm from England. Still, I'm not really up on that sort of thing so it might be used as a term

Wordcraft - Think it's used in interior design parlance (in Ireland & UK), but I'll avoid it if it's not commonly used - don't want people looking at their front doors and wondering where the table and chairs should go!

Sounds like 'door hardware' is the way to go. Thanks all.

(Out of curiosity, do you have doorbells?!)

I would probably just use the term "door fittings" (or brass fittings if they were all brass etc.) - hinges, knobs, knockers, bells, brass numbers, etc.

I like 'door fittings'. I think this would be universally understood - correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks again all.

Haha... one time my brother and I were recording a story (via audio recorders) and he forgot the word "doorknob" half way through his story. He stammered for a second and then said, "they turned the -- er -- handle of the door?"

Lol...

Sorry for spamming. Couldn't resist.

:)
