Public Request Fee Question

I have a question about a public request. I was just submitting a piece, but when it asks for price I don't know what to put. The client always puts an amount they are willing to pay for the article so do I just put a figure somewhere in their price range or can I go lower? Also, do I put usage or full rights or is it all still up to me??

It's best to put a price within the customer's stated range. Going lower undervalues your work - and the work of everyone else. If a customer says $50-$60 and someone submits an article for $20, that doesn't necessarily mean a sale will result just because of the lower price. However, if a lot of writers all go low, then that brings the market down with it. I'm sure your article is worth the customer's stated price so have the confidence in yourself to price your article in the customer's price range.

I usually price the same (or very close to the same) for usage/unique/full rights for public requests. Most want full rights but every now and then someone will want usage rights. If you price too low at usage, it can be a little disappointing when the customer buys it. I solve it by putting my desired price there regardless.
