Update:
Submitted my fourth article.

Need some input, please.

I am a bit perplexed by the excerpt that accompanies the article. Is the excerpt a condensed version of the article or is it a truncated version of the article? I suppose the excerpt is what the buyer gets to see before he purchases the article. So how about putting the entire article in the excerpt so that the buyer can see exactly what he is paying for?

What I have done for the first three articles was to write a condensed version. However, that takes time and effort. So, for the fourth article, I submitted a truncated version as an excerpt. Would really like to know what is the best way to present an excerpt.

Thank you.

The excerpt is supposed to be copied STRAIGHT from the original article. You should put at least 1/3 of the article in that spot, but many writers here do copy the entire article there so that the customer can see the whole thing. It's a matter of personal preference. If you look at the articles in the marketplace right now, you'll see how other people do it. But the excerpt is not a re-write, it's actually part of the article-- you may want to edit that in your submissions before they get reviewed. Good luck!

Oh, no, now I am dead meat. I can't edit any of my articles yet because they are all under review and re-review. I got into the habit of writing condensed versions of my articles to use as excerpts, from my other ongoing online project reviewing movies. I suppose what that other buyer actually wanted was what is called a summary here. So from now on, I will just put the entire article into the excerpt because the way I write, a truncated version would not show the buyer what I actually wrote.

You CAN Edit or Delete any article that has NOT yet been reviewed. Just go to My Content and click Edit next to the articles. You can even change the file itself as long as you re-upload the correct file before hitting submit.

You have plenty of time to change the summaries. I don't think the editors work on weekends, so you're fine.

Remember, there's a short summary and a long summary. The short summary is a brief description of the article. Do NOT copy and paste the article's introduction here; write an original short summary. It doesn't have to be overly detailed, but it should give the customer an idea what to expect and hopefully entice him to read more. The long summary involves actual excerpts or the entire article.

If you do post just one third, make sure that it's obvious by including something at the bottom that indicates that there's more to the article than what is displayed such as ". . . article continues to discuss ___, ____, and ____." Otherwise, customers could think that the article simply ends there, is too short, or doesn't have much to it.

@ Versantscribe
I will try that. Thank you.

@ Celeste
So the short summary is the teaser and the long summary is the excerpt, right? I think I have got the short summary done correctly. Now I will just upload the entire article into the excerpt box. Thank you.

btw are the articles published here protected by Copyscape? Or do I have to keep track of them myself to make sure no one uses them without my prior consent?

Thank you for the correction Celeste!! I think I was mixing it up in my head. So glad someone offered a correction :).

I think that the editors run everything through a Copyscape-type program when you submit it, but you should probably check around the web to see if anyone has plagiarized you. If you find any of your articles somewhere they shouldn't be, let CC know and they'll help go after the perps for you.

So how much do we have to spend to get compensation for a plagiarized article that sells for, say, 10usd?

Update:

Two articles approved. Now awaiting buyer.
One article returned. Corrections already made and re-submitted.
Does this mean my submission limit is now six instead of three articles?

The birds seem to be singing so much more sweetly this morning. Maybe it's because the sun is shining even more brightly.

How do I convey my thanks to the editors who reviewed my articles and pointed out my mistakes?

I've wondered the very same thing! They are re-approving all my articles that I submitted to add my by-line in about 24 hours. That's just awesome.

Do we know how many editors there are now?

This is a wild guess but I must say that there are at least two of them. I know for sure that one of them is very, very particular about commas. His comments on my articles, which are returned for correction, is making me go back to grammar school all over again. Very good way to bring me down to earth.

I wonder if they are using a tracking system. Like a database which keeps track of the articles submitted, the errors found and the corrected re-submissions. When I was GM on a WoW private game server, we had something similar to keep track of the tickets submitted so that any GM on duty can look up the database to see the track record of the player. Helps us in assisting the players to get the most out of the game.
