Hi everyone,
Does the rule about three rejections mean that the same article rejected three times will get a person booted, or does it mean that three articles rejected will get one booted?
I enthusiastically submitted three articles. The first one came back as rejected for formatting. I since saved it in .rtf format, which appears to have worked, and corrected the one other grammatic error that was noted in two places - including at the very end of the article. I deleted the other two articles I submitted until I can get this one accepted, since I'm not yet very familiar with CC's methods.
My piece was rejected again. One notation included the same grammatical error. This was due to my inexperience with the format change and was entirely my fault.
It was rejected a third time. Two new things were noted, neither of which had been mentioned in the first two rejections, and both of which were "gray area" items, I believe. (One arguable statement in my article requested citation, but the sentence was a thesis-type statement per the public request and was not from source material. I addressed this within the article by clarifying the statistics that led me to make the independent statement. The second notation referred to an example that the editor did not notice I'd used previously, and it said my second reference to it was coming out of nowhere since I hadn't referred to it previously. This was inaccurate, but I changed the structure to make the initial reference more noteworthy to readers.)
Bang! Fourth rejection! In making these changes, I inadvertently inserted a word in the wrong place, which turned one sentence into nonsense.
I resubmitted, but I'm feeling a bit paranoid now. My first two submissions were partially problematic due to Microsoft Word formatting and my effort to try submitting in a new format. The second two rejections were entirely new things. How will these be tallied against my account?

Re: Rejection Process
I've had more than three rejections myself. What I *hope* the rule really means is that if you make major mistakes and don't correct them/learn from them, CC will boot you. But I'm paranoid too. I'm half afraid to submit articles in case I'm wrong and they suddenly decide to boot me. The fact that I've not seen or heard of this rule except on the forums has also struck me as slightly odd.

Re: Rejection Process
That's reassuring. I wasn't sure where I'd first seen the rejection clause, and upon reviewing the terms of service and help forums, I don't see a reference to it. Ok, I'll relax a bit. Whew!

Re: Rejection Process
The three strikes rule is not hard and fast. Basically as I've seen it applied, if someone can't produce quality work they will not waste time reviewing anymore. If you submit good work but get a rejection for silly stuff like the extra word or a format issue, you will be fine.
