Buy articles for a magazine

Post by focusmag »

Hi guys, I just stumbled upon this website a week or so ago.

I've send a few emails to the site help without reply so i'll ask here.

Does purchasing an article also give me permission to print the article in a magazine, not just a website?

Our publication is only very small, so we don't have a big budget, but I've found most articles I like within our price range.

I love the way the site works, and the great content. If someone could let me know about the above that would be great.

Hi, welcome. I'm a writer but maybe I can help with your question. From what I understand, it depends on the rights you purchase. If you purchase usage, you may use the article once - it doesn't matter if you use it online or in print but you can only use it once (or purchase additional licenses).

If you wish to use an article in multiple places or if you want to make changes to the article, go for the full rights license. You can use it however you want in a magazine, e-zine, online, press releases, whatever you can dream up, it's yours to do with as you please.

A couple things to note about the different licenses, if you choose usage, it's not unique, other people can come along and buy it afterwards. You can prevent that from happening by choosing "unique" or "full rights". With unique rights you can't make any changes or remove the author's byline but you can use it multiple times. Full rights gives you editorial control.

Hope that helps. And remember, if you have a specific need, feel free to post your request - you'll find the writers here are up to the task!

The quick answer is yes, you can use content for magazines as well as websites. Like Celeste Stewart said if you plan on using both you need to make sure you have the proper license.
