3x3 help please

Post by trisheart »

Hi all, I am new here. I am a little confused on the best way to express a measurement. Is it three feet cubed? three foot cubed, 3'x3'x3', three feet by three feet by three feet, three foot by three foot by three foot? I would also like to know how I should put the same (approximate) measurement to follow in metric - (1mx1mx1m). I am really not sure why this is confusing me but it is. Many thanks.

Sorry, me again. I think rather than cubic I will go with " both back and sides should be ..." but again, should I use words or digits? If it should be words feet? or foot? I have seen it expressed both ways.

I don't really have a precise answer but I don't think it's altogether fair to get no replies to a legitimate question. I would say whatever is the most commonly written way when you google it, would probably be at least acceptable. In this sense, you are probably writing more of a marketable copy, as opposed to a mathematical theory, thus, you would want it to be understood by the most people.

Hi!

I would just go with "All sides should measure X feet". It's short and simple. Spelling out small numbers is very common, but I don't see a real problem if you actually use the number. It would be cool to include metres as well if you are targeting an international audience. I always get confused with dimensions given in different metric systems! :?

Thank you both for your answers. Mnicol, What you said makes complete sense - why didn't I think of it? I went ahead and submitted with 3'x3'x3' as it just looked tidier. It is still in review so I may edit it - or just leave it. Thanks again for your replies. :)

I don't really think you'll have a problem with your version. It's a widely acceptable way of expressing measurements, so you probably don't even have to worry about it.

Good luck! :)

Thanks again. Just replying in case anyone else comes up with something similar. The 3'x3'x3' came through review without comment. :)
