Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give you all a heads up that I found three of my older articles so far have been stolen. They were taken by three different people. You may want to run a check on your own articles through Copyscape or another article checker to make sure yours are safe. I hope I was the only victum this time but it doesn't hurt for everyone to check.
CC is graciously working on this problem with me.

Deanna,
I'm so sorry to hear that this happened, but thank you for sharing with us your situation. It's extremely difficult to police these types of things, and it's a real let-down when you discover that it happens.

Re: Stolen Articles
How does Copyscape work?
Re: Stolen Articles
You have to sign up for an account with Copyscape and purchase scans at .05 per scan. Then you can paste a portion of or the entire portion of your article into it to see if it comes up with any matches. I use it to check my articles before submitting them and I also use it to check to see if any article have been stolen. You just have to go to copyscape.com to check it out.
Re: Stolen Articles
Or just search a phrase from your article on google :-) its free!
Re: Stolen Articles
I'm assuming this is from selling via "usage?" Wouldn't the buyers here be obligated to add that these articles are copyrighted? Is there a script pertaining to copyright, present in the format they receive?
I'm new, so I'm still asking silly questions.

Re: Stolen Articles
No, none of these articles had been sold at all. They were just stolen. They copied and pasted the Long Summary even though the entire article wasn't on there. That was what first had clued me in that they were stolen instead of purchased - there was only about one-third of the article printed. I've had about 5 stolen so far and that is very frustrating because I will probably not be able to sell them now. CC has helped to get them off some of the sites but they still appear in the seach engine when you type in their titles and on Copyscape. I'll be keeping a closer eye on my articles in the future so I can catch any problems early.
Re: Stolen Articles
Ouch!
With some websites, you can't copy a thing. I've wanted to C&P the odd tid-bit for my research files for a novel, but couldn't. I don't know how this is done or what program they used to do it, but maybe it's something Constant-Content could look at. This doesn't stop someone from re-typing your copy, however, but the odds of them going through all that to steal it are rare.
Sorry this happened to you.

Re: Stolen Articles
There is one site at which you can purchase the program to allow c&p, which I use for just that purpose (saving odds and ends). It's called Solid Capture. I imagine there are others, too. I love it. And yes, it would make stealing all kinds of stuff sinfully easy. Good luck!
Re: Stolen Articles
Grouchy, that sounds interesting. I'll check it out. Thanks.
