Lately I had 3 articles stolen and posted elsewhere with the thief's name in the byline. Two were on AC and one was on some random pet website. I reported them, as well as a couple of articles I could see had been stolen from other CC authors, and Support was fantastic about getting the stolen content removed immediately. No worries there. My question is about what happens next.
- If an AC author steals work from CC or elsewhere, are they automatically banned by AC? What's to prevent them from signing up under another name?
- Do they have to return the money they made off of our stolen content, or does AC confiscate any unpaid balance from their account?
- Is there any way of forcing thieves to pay us for the content? (I am guessing the answer to this one is no, but I have to ask...)
Apart from using google alerts and notifying Support, is there anything else we as authors can do to discourage thieves?
What happens to the content thieves after we report them?
