Selling content for Usage Only if I posted it elsewhere?

Post by secluded »

Hi all. I'm currently a content writer for a home healthcare website. I'm writing some articles for their blog and posting them about three times a week. My question is... is it illegal to also post these articles on Constant Content for usage only? I don't want them to think I am plagiarizing, as the articles will probably turn up in a Google search. But since I wrote them and they belong to me (though the byline is the name of the company as it is posted on WordPress, not my name), is it allowed to sell them here? I am pretty sure the company I am working for won't mind if I post these articles on here; in fact, they'd probably be happy that I was making extra money on them. I just don't want to break any laws or get kicked off the site. What are your thoughts?

There are a few things to consider here, and the first is whether you own the copyright to the existing articles. If your contract specified that the copyright was passed to the business, then it would be an infringement of copyright to use them again. However that's the only actual legal issue I can think of.

Also, are these articles written elsewhere written in the same name as the one you want to use here? If not and you use a pen name, you'll need to change one or both of the names to one you are happy to use.

And finally, are they definitely good enough? Edit attentively before you submit!

I'm thinking the site owner thinks he/she is buying full rights, so I wouldn't do it. Not only will you lose the job at the website, but I don't think CC admins will be too happy if their customers get DMCA notices for stolen content sold through CC.

It not only hurts your rep, but it hurts the site's rep too and the rest of us.
